Snitzel's Stakes Treble At Randwick

The track record win by crack sprinter Redzel was the highlight of a huge day of black type results for champion sire Snitzel at Randwick on March 10.

Snitzel ended the day with Australian season totals of $18.7 million prizemoney - already a new record - and 23 individual stakeswinners, only four away from an all-time record.

Heading a treble of Snitzel stakes winners at Randwick was Redzel’s brilliant win the G2 Challenge Stakes where he broke the 1000m course record. He also hold the Randwick record for 1100m.

Incredibly Snitzel has notched four same-day stakes trebles in the past 12 months.

What was missing was a black type treble on the same track. That gap in Snitzel's CV is now filled after the treble by Redzel, Estijaab and I Am Excited at Randwick.

Champion sprinter Redzel Horseform (Snitzel x Millrich by Rubiton) recorded his seventh Group victory and has now earned $8.2 million - more than any other Australian sprinter.

The inaugural winner of The Everest winner last spring was sold at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast sale by Marquee Stud for $120,000 to Triple Crown Syndications. The outstanding sprinter was previously a graduate of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

The first black type wins by classy 2YO filly Estijaab (Snitzel x Response by Charge Forward) and I Am Excited (Snitzel x Lady Beckworth by General Nediym) took Snitzel’s tally of stakes winners to 81.

The Team Hawkes-trained Estijaab Horseform won the important Golden Slipper lead-up in the G2 Reisling Stakes in race record time for her second win from her first three starts. Her only loss was her second to Golden Slipper favourite Sunlight in the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes.

She is raced by His Excellency Nasser Lootah of Emirates Park, who arrived at last year’s Australian Easter Yearling Sale with the intention of buying “two or three quality fillies’’ but came away with only one after paying $1.7 million for Estijaab.

“She was our number one filly by far but we had to give up a few others to buy her,” said Emirates Park’s Bryan Carlson. “She took the budget.’’

A daughter of the dual G1 winner Response, Estijaab is a new success for the great Japanese breeder Katsumi Yoshida and his partnership with Arrowfield Stud.

Response has a yearling filly by Snitzel bought for $350,000 by Moody Racing at the Magic Millions Sale, a weanling full sister and is again in foal to the champion sire.

Estijaab and I Am Excited give Snitzel 23 individual Australian stakes winners this season with five months still remaining.

I Am Excited Horseform won the Listed Fireball Stakes for hers second successive Randwick win since resuming.

Trained by David Pfieffer for her breeders Bell River Thoroughbreds, I Am Excited is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Flippant.

Fellow Arrowfield Stud-based stallion Not A Single Doubt sired a stakes double when Not A Single Cent took out the G2 VRC Sires' Produce Stakes at Flemington and Sugar Bella won the G3 Wenona Girl Quality at Randwick.

Their double took Not A Single Doubt’s stakes tally to 53.

Sugar Bella Horseform was bred by Corumbene Stud and sold to Fesen Pty Ltd at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $135,000.

From just seven starts the four-year-old mare has won six and almost $250,000.

Race Synopsis: Brilliant sprinter Redzel maintained his outstanding form with a very good win here in course record time (55.73) in his second run this preparation, taking his record to seven wins from his past eight starts. Kerrin McEvoy settled him back in third place, following a hectic early tempo (set by Super Too). He then came with a well-timed bid to take the lead at the 100m before going on to score by almost two lengths. Jungle Edge chased the leader and kept fighting on really well for second in a very good effort. Speedster Super Too was brilliantly away and she then held a clear lead at a fast pace (first 200m 22.64), only tiring on reaching the 100m, just holding on to take third in a photo. Viridine settled back in sixth place and made ground, running on well for (2.9 lengths) fourth, just missing third in a photo. English was back in fifth place and kept fighting on well to hold that position to the post, beaten 3.9 lengths in a sound first up effort.
